A Crooked Keepsake

A Crooked Keepsake is an attempt at safekeeping lovingly penned handpicked selections from almost a decade of taking writing less than carelessly.

I originally intended to have it as a book of poems and stories in one volume but I heeded my mother’s suggestion to make it into two parts.

The book of stories, called A Crooked Keepsake contains 50 segments which include short stories, personal essays, two novellas, and a novelette.

The book of verse is called A Child’s Play ( named as such to poke a light-hearted pun on the 13-yo me who thought it’s a piece of cake, a Child’s Play if you may — to get a book published). It contains a total of 71 long, medium and short pieces, best served with a hot cup of tea or chocolate.

He wouldn’t mind death bringing him some relief. But somehow his heart wasn’t quite convinced that this was the end of the road. He sat cross-legged on the floor, staring at the wall. In a dark corner of the room, something moved.

A Child’s Play

In the secret sack under my bed,

There are anxious kittens, meek kittens,

Ferocious kittens who were misunderstood often.

Kittens who would like to be chefs and scientists

And rock stars all at the same time

As they dream under their tattered roof.

They’re a mixed bag, Black or brown,

Ginger or white,

They’re all kittens

That deserve a fair chance.
